So yes, Sketch and Pixelmator, and most well-known creative software (anything in the Adobe suite, the Affinity Suite, etc) is generally significantly ahead of the open source options.

Inkscape pulls you through a series of menus, and doesn't have any way to remember how you've previously separated up your assets (unless there's some way to do that deeply hidden in the UI that I could never find). It's integrated in the main UI, it operates in a predictable way, and it just works. The biggest thing that comes to mind for Sketch/Inkscape is exporting sections of the larger project file into individual assets. Sketch and Pixelmator, to me, operate in a significantly smoother way, and make doing basic tasks substantially easier. They give you most of the tools you need or want, but not always in a straightforward way, and their UIs are lacking compared to their commercial counterparts. For someone who is mostly messing around casually and just for fun, Inkscape and Gimp are great. Have you tried any of the apps they're claiming are superior? I would argue Sketch is compared to Inkscape, and Pixelmator is compared to Gimp. You need to direct that feedback to the people to whom you gave a lot of money :/ Wayland fixes issues in the Linux security model, but otherwise I don't know how well it does on hardware where the manufacturer isn't contributing. At worst, I had to use Debian 'testing' for the first few months after buying new hardware. I use mostly Intel generic hardware (including Intel video cards). The manufacturer/distributor is not playing nice with the community. If your experience is mostly with Apple hardware, which I haven't used in a while, then you're taking a risk. Maybe you're encountering application configuration issues? Deleting/re-creating your user account should be enough (or finding the Gnome/KDE/other configuration that is causing problem, but I agree that can be hard to find). Its settings get regenerated when it boots.

Why would you have to re-install your OS because of a problem with X? X doesn't typically save a configuration, it doesn't keep a registry, etc. Ironically, everything else works perfectly for me, including all necessary software, wifi, nvidia gfx, etc. I shouldn't have to reinstall the OS multiple times just to test it out or debug X when it fails to load (it's just easier to reinstall). I really want it to work but X is simply insufferable in its current form.

I think many of the issues can be fixed with many days spent on tweaking the drivers, but some of the issues don't seem to have a fix that the drivers support (proper double tap detection that only registers a double tap if my fingers are close together-should part of accidental touch detection-for example).

This should be self explanatory to anyone who's run Linux on an Macbook Pro and likely with any other trackpad. On top of X's display issues, it has input issues, especially with trackpads. Maybe Wayland will be better but I'm not holding my breath based on what I've read so far. After that, I'm lucky if I get a text login prompt at all. The longest X has stayed stable has been almost 6 months, about 5 years ago. I've had to reinstall from scratch so many times over the last 20 years that I've lost count. My advice to you would be to always request the latest Ubuntu. The power plug was off centered because it fell on it's power input, but it was like $20 USD to fix. I knocked the Ivy Bridge Lemur onto the floor and it survived. I do not know what you mean by 'laptop robustness'. The Ivy Bridge Lemur has a boxer look that you can see with other laptop models. The Skylake and later Lemur's have a very sleek, modern look.

Skylake has not been as bad as Sandy Bridge, but still a problem. Skylake has been out more than a year, and Mesa 13 came out recently. I had to put Manjaro on my Skylake Lemur to get Mesa 13 to get all the issues fixed. I do not think it was fixed until Ubuntu 13.04 (It came with 12.04). My Ivy Bridge Lemur would freeze once in a while after resuming. Intel does not get mature launch support in their drivers until well after launch. The only problem I have had is with Intel. AMD cut support for the graphics a month or so after I bought it, and it always ran very hot. Long story short, the Lemur is an excellent little laptop that replaced two large pieces of crap from HP and Dell. Did you buy from them? What's your experience?
